Police officer shot, several injured, in Louisiana standoff

The officer who was shot by a suspect and one of the stabbing victims have died in Sunset, Louisiana.

Tonette Thibodeaux of the Sunset police department confirmed that an officer was shot but said that she does not have any further details at this time.

This Instagram photo apparently depicts the scene in Sunset. He said all three people in the store got out safely. According to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, they can hear the suspect sneezing from the tear gas.

Sunset is a town of about 3,000 people located 15 miles north of Lafayette, Louisiana.

Wiley wasn’t injured except for tear-gas burns to his face and neck, Guidroz said, adding, it is being suspected that his act was drug-induced.

Wiley was then reported to have crashed his auto into a nearby convenience store and started a two-hour standoff with officers. The officer was transported via helicopter to a hospital. State Trooper Steven Vincent was shot Sunday and died Monday.

Sunset Police Officer Henry Nelson was shot and killed responding to the incident, Guidroz said.
