The shots were fired at a site where police had just found two apartments and multiple vehicles struck by gunfire.

Officers secured the scene and called for assault squad detectives.

While officers investigated, an unknown person opened fire on police, they said.

On Thursday, Columbus Police Sergeant Richard Weiner said officers were targeted in the attack and they are now on high alert.
