Police probe Cornell brawl that left Ithaca student dead
Ithaca College President Tom Rochon said in a statement: ‘I hope you will hold these students – along with their families, friends, classmates, and professors – in your thoughts and prayers at this hard and tragic time’. The other student was treated and released from Upstate University Hospital.

At this point, police are pursuing leads. No arrests have been made.
An Ithaca College student fatally stabbed at Cornell University was attacked while trying to help a fellow student amid a series of fights after a weekend party, his sister said Monday. Police said that victim was stabbed in the abdomen early on August 7 during a dispute on the 400 block of Eddy Street and was flown to a regional trauma center with serious injuries.
Students at a memorial for a slain NY college business major say he was a happy and driven would-be entrepreneur.
Nazaire’s loved one say he was a young man, with so much life ahead of him. Dean Sean Reid said it has been a tough day for students.
When police arrived they found Nazaire and another Ithaca College student had been stabbed.
“I really don’t know what to say”, he said.
Anyone with information or cell phone video is asked to call the Ithaca Police Department at 607-272-3245.
“I hope you will hold these students-along with their families, friends, classmates, and professors-in your thoughts and prayers at this hard and tragic time”, Rochon said in an earlier statement. “I didn’t send my son to school to get murdered”.
Speaking with The Ithaca Voice, Channelle Nazaire, the victim’s cousin, described Anthony Nazaire as a good student who had never been in trouble with police: “It’s very hard for me to even understand”. “I wish we could have got there a few minutes earlier”.
“God gave him gifts”, the slain student’s godfather, Jacques Dorsainvil, told the Daily News.
She said her family went to Ithaca on Sunday but returned early Monday with little information from investigators about their progress.
Jaylen Young said his friendship with Nazaire began when Nazaire spotted his Brooklyn Nets hat.
These events occurred after a party at Willard Straight Hall sponsored by a Cornell fraternity, Omega Psi Phi. First responders administered medical treatment. The other student would survive.
Another student was stabbed, but their identity was not released. After medical aid was provided by first responders at the scene, Nazaire was transported to Cayuga Medical Center and was later pronounced dead.
The weapon used was located, Cornell police said.
Ryan Lombardi, vice president for student and campus life, said in a statement to the Cornell community that Cornell police believe there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The Ithaca Police Department is leading the homicide investigation.
Police have not named any suspects in the stabbing.
Business professor William J. Tastle said Nazaire was famous for seeking faculty guidance.
But since word of his death Sunday, his family hasn’t stopped crying.
Anthony Nazaire, 19, is remembered by those who knew him as an ambitious, business-minded, gentleman. We stand in solidarity with all of the members of the Ithaca College and Cornell University communities during this very hard time. “The county offers its full aid and support to those working to bring the perpetrators to justice, and also to those who seek to counsel and console those who have been affected by this awful event”.
The college offered counseling assistance until 9 p.m. Sunday night in the lounge in the Circles Community Building.
