Questions of police brutality are surrounding a recent arrest made in New Hampshire Wednesday night after officers were caught on camera beating a suspect as he surrendered.

7News has learned that the suspect is a 50-year-old man from the Holden, Massachusetts area.

New Hampshire State Police, and Nashua police said they could not yet comment on the incident Wednesday evening. The Massachusetts State Police will also investigate the case.

Massachusetts State Police Colonel Richard D. McKeon said in a statement that his agency had identified the trooper involved in the incident and that he was relieved of duty pending a hearing next Wednesday.

Data recorded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that police pursuits have killed almost one person per day between 1979 and 2013, with a total of 11,506 pursuit-related deaths occurring in that time span. And while the majority of those fatalities were suspects driving away, at least one fifth were bystanders.

Simone can’t be reached for comment while in custody.

State Police officials are reviewing the motor vehicle pursuit to determine if the department’s pursuit policy was followed. He got out and they were attacking him and I don’t know what he did. He gave no additional details on how the investigation will be conducted or how long it may take.

In court Thursday, Simone agreed to be taken back to MA to face outstanding warrants there on assault with a deadly weapon and larceny.

Simone allegedly refused to stop, making his way from the Central Massachusetts town up through Littleton and Chelmsford into New Hampshire, coming to a stop in Nashua an hour later.

“We had troopers present at the end of the pursuit and we believe one of the officers involved on the actual apprehension is a member of our department”, he said.

Ricki Eshman, a spokeswoman for New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan, said: “The Governor is aware of the situation and we’ve reached out to the departments of safety and justice”.
