Fenner is accused of shooting 38-year-old Officer Tim Brackeen of the Shelby Police Department in the North Carolina city on Saturday.

Officer Brackeen died on Monday after being shot while trying to serve a warrant over the weekend.

Police in Charlotte confirmed Tuesday that two people were arrested – Casey Fenner of NY and Jolisa Peeler of Rhode Island.

Fenner, who had been on the run since the incident, was arrested in Rhode Island early Wednesday morning.

Officers in that state transported Fenner to an area hospital because the suspect was suffering from a gunshot wound.

“It’s been a long period of time where the detectives and the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents all cultivating information, pretty good police work tracking him here”, said Rhode Island State Police Col. Steven O’Donnell. “And they surrounded the house and they talked him out, and he surrendered, he came out peacefully”, Rhode Island State Police told station WPRI. Officer Brackeen, a 12-year veteran of the Shelby police department, was a K-9 handler. Officials also said they have made other arrests in the case, charging people with harboring a fugitive or being accessories after the fact.

He said they learned that Fenner was born in Rhode Island, but moved around a lot.

Two Shelby women were arrested Monday for harboring Fenner in relation to his prior arrest warrants. Details are fuzzy on what exactly happened next, but Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford said Brackeen was fatally shot in the chest even though he wore a bulletproof vest.

Fenner was released from the hospital and taken to state police headquarters, where he was arraigned Wednesday night on charges of murder and being a fugitive from justice. Casey Fenner was arrested in NY on Tuesday night as well.

“I hope they know they’re not alone, they have the community standing behind them”, said Kara Lesper, from a Belmont overpass. Spectators lined the streets leading to the funeral home.
