The Star Online was also raided by the police and the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today at the same time as news portal Malaysiakini over a report on the transfer of a deputy public prosecutor attached to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
He was part of the team that was investigating SRC global Sdn Bhd, a Finance Ministry subsidiary company.
The officers left about 3 hours later after seizing a computer and recording a statement from Malaysiakinieditor-in-chief Steven Gan.
Police raided offices of news portal Malaysiakini, and English daily The Star over their reports titled “Sudden Transfer MACC Prosecutor” and “MACC Prosecutor Shocked Sudden Transfer” they published respectively on Monday (Nov 2).
The pro-opposition online site reported on Monday that DPP Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi was “suddenly” transferred from that division. During the raid, police seized a CPU.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department head Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad was quoted as saying the raid was conducted following a report by an officer from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) last Tuesday.
Gan said Malaysiakini would stand by their report and continue to report the news and views that matter without fear or favour. “Furthermore, the law minister’s disclosure also confirmed that the report was not erroneous and a transfer did take place”, Gan said.

He added that they are willing to cooperate with authorities but said they will protect the identity of their sources “at all cost”.
