Police release 911 calls on clown sightings

There have been several reports of clowns trying to lure kids into wooded areas around Greensboro, North Carolina.

“I chose Pennywise the Clown as the face which the monster originally shows the kiddies because kids love clowns, but they also fear them”, King wrote.

SC law enforcement have also stepped up patrols after getting new reports of people dressed as clowns trying to lure children into the woods. Officers responding to the call could not find the clown.

– The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office said recent clown sightings reported in the area have prompted pranksters to make false reports.

“The witness reported that a person wearing a scary clown mask, red curly wig, yellow dotted shirt, blue clown trousers, and clown shoes exited the woods”, Greensboro Police said in a statement.

The latest sighting occurred on Tuesday, when a man brandishing a machete chased a clown into the woods near an apartment complex.

“These people that are dressed up, they don’t have any correlation of being a clown because there is no clowning there”.

King likens the clown sightings to the “low-level hysteria” caused by things like Slender Man or the Bunny Man.

“For all of the coulrophobics out there, we apologize for the pic, but it was necessary”, the post said.

“We don’t recommend that”, Greensboro police spokeswoman Susan Danielsen said. Now if there is substantiated proof that someone is trying to lure children away that is a different story, but up to this point there has been no illegal activity.

Professional clowns say that the sightings and the panic they generated in North Carolina have hurt the “family friendly” image that the entertainers try to project. On Aug. 29, a boy reported that two people dressed as clowns were standing near an apartment complex. “People are pretty scared”, says Chris Bass. Are they all the work of one clown? Make sure they know that it’s okay to say no to an adult and to run away from adults in unsafe situations.

“The clowning around needs to stop”, Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller said during a press briefing on Sept 1.
