Police eventually cleared the campus after the shooting and authorities later found Lamb when a license plate reader picked up his plate as he crossed a bridge over the Mississippi River from Arkansas back into Mississippi, Cleveland police Chief Charles “Buster” Bingham said.

A detective played the 911 recording for reporters on Tuesday. Lamb: “I shot my wife last night…” They had a dog named Lightning that lived with them at the brick house that backs up to a bayou in Gautier. “We don’t know why this man did what he did”, he said.
He also said a “sweet dog” was in the house that was “not going to bother anyone” but is likely upset.
Police located his auto but after he pulled over, he jumped out of the vehicle and shot himself.
But beyond that connection, authorities have said little about a motive and outright dismissed the notion of a love triangle involving Lamb, Prentiss and Schmidt.
“We have nothing to support that”.
“We put two and two together”, he said. Anslover said that Schmidt beamed when talking about his children and teaching them lyrics to his favorite Johnny Cash or Sheryl Crow songs.
“Everybody’s phone just sort of went off at the same time”, Abraham said.
“It was supposedly that he was bitten by a spider or something”, Bingham confirmed.
Classes at Delta State will resume Wednesday.
While police searched for the shooter Monday morning, the campus was on lockdown.
Classes were canceled on Monday and Tuesday at the northern Mississippi college, which includes about 4,000 students.
Shannon Lamb, a social science professor at Delta State University, then shot himself as police were tailing him.
Prentiss’ former husband said she was a “good person” and that their daughter is devastated by her death. “Just go and take care of her”. He admits killing Prentiss and refers police to a Santa Cruz address. The shooting led to a campus lock down and manhunt.
The Cleveland School District says all local schools are on lockdown. “Listen to everyone and please turn yourself in”, wrote Sangie Butler Alford.
Before working at Delta State, Schmidt taught for six years at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where he received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011. The 32-year-old global business major from Seattle says a few people are having a harder time than others.
He recently asked to take a reduced load of classes for medical reasons, said LaForge, who did not elaborate about Lamb’s supposed medical issues.
LaForge said he knew Schmidt, 39, very well. When they spoke to him, he assured them “he wasn’t going to jail”.

“He did a tremendous job as a history professor”, LaForge said.
