New Orleans police identify the man they say shot a good samaritan as he tried to prevent a kidnapping.

The “enraged” gunman then shot Gold in the stomach, police said, in a terrifying moment caught on a surveillance camera.

The gunman then tried twice to shoot Gold again but his weapon didn’t fire. The woman is not shown to be injured, according to The Washington Post.

Peter Gold, a fourth-year medical student at Tulane University, spotted a woman being dragged down a sidewalk by a man in hooded sweatshirt on Friday and chose to do something about. Cain faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and armed robbery, Harrison said.

The university are offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the shooter’s arrest.

The woman being carried by the suspect, was reportedly treated for minor injuries and has since been released. Michele Adams, who taught Gold while he was an undergraduate sociology student, said that she was shocked to hear of the news but was not surprised that Gold would risk his own safety for someone else.

Police say Cain shot the medical student just before 4 a.m. on November 20 at the intersection of Magazine Street and St. Mary Street.
