After shooting Young, the attacker ran away, headed east on Sansom Street, with officers chasing him, Philly.com reported.

The ambush on the police sergeant was reminiscent of the January 7 nighttime shooting when a gunman walked up to a patrol auto at 60th and Spruce Streets in West Philadelphia and without warning, shot and seriously injured Philadelphia Police Officer Jesse Hartnett, now 34. Bullets hit her protective vest and her left arm.

This undated photo provided by the Philadelphia Police Department on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 shows Nicholas Glenn.

Miller, 56, and Young, 46, were in stable condition Saturday at Penn Presbyterian Hospital, as were the three civilians also hit by gunfire. Then he shot her in the leg and kept running.

The city’s police chief said he wasn’t sure whether Glenn was motivated by anti-police sentiment or whether he was mentally unbalanced. Another man was shot ten times and three women were injured outside a nightclub in Port Richmond. Police have determined Glenn acted alone. The 25-year-old woman, who was hit seven times, was pronounced dead just before 2 a.m. Saturday, police said.

This story has been revised to correct that the title of the letter was “Doomed People”. Ross said she is talking and will be OK.

Police found a “rambling” letter that expressed anger at both police and his probation officer. She was shot eight times at point blank range with most of the injuries being in her left side.

“We’ve got shots fired at us!” one officer can be heard yelling into his police radio during the chase.

In a news conference after the shooting, Ross said, “It is absolutely fantastic that she is here, along with some of the other [victims]”.

Ross described the violent events as “completely bizarre” and said he “would have no difficulty” believing mental illness was involved in Glenn’s actions.

Aside from the officers, the identities of the suspect and others shot in the spree were not immediately released. Police say the woman died and the man was in critical condition. Police say Glenn then fired five shots into Maximum Level Lounge, located on the 5100 block of Sansom Street, striking a male security guard in the leg.

Officials say two police officers been shot in a confrontation in West Philadelphia. Court documents for a man named Nicholas Glenn-who is listed in the documents as 25 years old-detail a laundry list of allegations dating back to 2009.

“If the door had been shut like we always keep it shut it might have been different”, she said with a shake of the head. She said she was “so relieved and pleased to report that he is getting excellent care and will fully recover from his wounds”.
