Police say they injured 4 people in Sydney mall shooting

Emergency services have been called to Westfield Hornsby in Sydney’s north, with reports that at least one person has been shot.

In a statement, NSW Police said they attempted to speak to the man but fired a number of shots following a confrontation.

Henry posted that one shot had been fired and three people were injured.

The incident occurred in an outdoors area of the mall, where a market was being held.

The incident took place just before noon on Thursday after police were alerted to reports of a man who was armed with a knife outside the Hornsby Westfield shopping centre on Sydney’s Upper North Shore.

A statement from NSW police says four people were injured and taken to hospital, but the nature of their injuries and remain unclear.

They declined to reveal further details or say whether the incident was terrorism-related.

Police have launched critical incident investigation following the shooting.

Police say they did not know what caused the confrontation.

Magdy Abdalla, from the Java Lava Cafe, on Florence Street, told AAP fell to the floor after hearing gunshots.

Adam Stratton, a butcher whose shop is about 30 metres away from the shooting scene, told Channel Nine he heard three loud bangs before people started running away.

“After that I walked outside and I found three old ladies, they were injured and bleeding, and then, I found another guy, a young guy, he’s bleeding as well”.

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward and are not looking for any other offenders.
