A 53-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after an incident in which a 3-year-old boy was sprayed with a burning substance at a movie theatre on Halloween, Toronto police say. The unknown chemical burned holes in the boy’s clothing and in the carpet of the theatre.
Police say Alverna Maria Lawrence was arrested on Wednesday and she has been formally charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon risky to public peace. Perhaps the woman clumsily spilled the liquid says one employee.
The child was taken to hospital with minor burns to his neck and ears.
Luckily, the boy’s father was trained in treating chemical burns and knew he had to apply water to the wounds right away.
