Police responded to an “active shooter” situation at Western High School in Shively on September 18.
Police are now investigating to find out who made the call. Check back for updates.
Jefferson County Schools spokeswoman Bonnie Hackbarth says Western High School and a nearby elementary school were placed on lockdown, but nothing has been found. Still, police are searching the high school. Authorities said no shots were fired and no one was hurt. She said she heard someone say the threat was false but that “once I see a child walk out of the building, I’ll know they’re safe”.
Parents trying to go to the school are being told to report to Rockford Lane Baptist Church at 2006 Rockford Lane.
The schools continue to be on a lock down until the situation is cleared. Josh Myers of the Shively Police Department said.
Shively Police had multiple units at the school and there are no reports of injuries. After the lockdowns were lifted, both schools resumed normal operations, with normal dismissal times.

“In an effort to ensure everyone feels safe, Western has hired three additional security officers to join the two regular on-site officers at tonight’s 7 p.m. home football game”. We take a threat such as this very seriously.
