A burglar who was shot by police in Brooklyn has died Monday evening, police said.
The shooting took place around 6:30 p.m. near 2271 78th St.in the Bensonhurst neighborhood along a stretch of detached homes.
“Officers responded to a burglary in progress, where they observed a male fleeing the location”, the department said in a statement. After scaling a fence, the man was confronted by the officers.
Police recovered a gun at the scene. The suspect pointed a revolver at the sergeant. Both officers fired their weapons, hitting the suspect twice.
He was declared dead soon after at Coney Island Hospital, police said.
The two officers were also taken to a hospital but were not seriously injured, police said, and none of the people at the apartment were hurt, including seven adults and a baby, authorities said.
Police are looking for a second suspect – a heavy-set black male who was wearing a yellow construction hat.
