Marybeth Feild of the Inland Regional Center was not at the facility but says she is in contact with many employees. In response, protocols were put in place and classes at the school were canceled.

5TH UPDATE, 4:23 PM: WNBC New York ended its coverage of the breaking news event at 7 PM ET to stick with the planned local coverage of its annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center.

A few hours after the shooting, law enforcement units were in hot pursuit of the SUV when police said somebody started firing at them with a rifle out the back window of the vehicle. One officer was also wounded, but is in stable condition. Police cautioned that the number of people killed and wounded were preliminary estimates that could change. The person was limp, but it’s unclear whether that suspect is alive or dead.

A bleeding person was seen next to what appeared to be a long rifle and a bullet-riddled SUV of similar description to one sought by authorities in connection with Wednesday morning’s mass shooting, which left at least 14 people dead and more than a dozen more injured.

Hours later, police reported that one suspect was down.

The third suspect escaped on foot. ATF agent Meredith Davis said an “explosive device” was found at the Inland Regional Center.

It was the nation’s deadliest mass shooting since the attack at a school in Newtown, Connecticut, three years ago that left 26 children and adults dead.

“It is a possibility, but we don’t know that yet”.

“They came in with a objective”. No weapons were recovered at the scene.

A U.S. Customs and Border Patrol spokesman said the Southern California office had not received any specific instructions to remain vigilant of the suspects at large.

A SWAT vehicle carries police officers near the scene in San Bernardino, California. At least 14 people were taken to area hospitals with injuries likely associated with gunshot wounds, Burguan said.

“I know there is an active scene, there were shots fired and a suspect is down”, Sergeant Vicki Cervantes of San Bernardino Police told reporters. Dylann Roof has been ordered to stand trial following a shooting at a historically black church in Charleston, SC, that killed nine people in June.

“She heard the shots and crying”, he said.

The attack took place in a conference area where the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health was holding a banquet, said Maybeth Field, the center’s president and CEO. Nelson said there were no known threats to that organization before the shooting.

The facility serves thousands of individuals with developmental disabilities in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. This was in the conference centre which had been rented out, to a group of people. Others walked quickly from a building with their hands up so that police could search them and make sure the attackers weren’t trying to slip out.
