He says a 1992 executive order disarms military personnel in offices such as recruiting stations on American soil.
“As long as it’s licensed in the state of Indiana and they meet the safety requirements, then they’re able to carry it inside the armories in a concealed fashion”, Public Affairs Specialist for Joint Force Headquarters Catalina Carrasco said. Officials are telling recruitment centers that any security issues must be deferred to local law enforcement.
Around the nation many civilians are taking up the call to arms to do the job the President won’t allow our trained men in uniform to do for themselves. Scott has instructed deputies to check on recruiting centers, but not the volunteer guards. Florida also will consider installing bulletproof glass and video cameras at recruiting centers.
Armed guards are now posted at all of North Carolina’s National Guard recruiting centers. At least they have the leeway to protect themselves while on duty.
“We truly appreciate the outpouring of patriotism, but we prefer to use law enforcement for our security”, said Tom Byrd, spokesman for U.S. Army Recruiting Command.
A group of veterans and their supporters began guarding a Navy-Marine recruiting station in Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday.
“Additionally, we are concerned that armed citizens may detract interested individuals from entering our offices, which ultimately negatively effects our recruiting mission”.
“What I want to see is bulletproof glass”, said Larry Fitzpatrick, who has been at this site for the last four days. Reed, who, according to the Columbus Dispatch, is a firearms “enthusiast”, tried to clear the ammunition from his weapon before showing it off, but in the process managed to fire a round into the pavement. And that’s a very good thing.
Byrd did not have the exact number of recruiting center nationwide that have drawn civilian protectors. “Armed soldiers and airmen will be present at all offices as a component of new security measures”.

There’s one concrete step that would immediately improve security, as Florida is considering: install bulletproof glass at the recruitment centers.
