The flagship campus of Arkansas State system has 14,000 students.
The university tweeted that a reported man with a gun had been surrounded around 1:45 p.m. and that no shots had been fired.
A Jonesboro Police Department spokesman says his agency is helping respond to the incident. CNN’s Joe Sutton reports that the suspect is barricaded in a pickup truck by the student union.
University spokesman Bill Smith says the university was placed on lockdown after the man drove onto campus.
It is located about two hours northeast of Little Rock, the state capital.
