Colin Kaepernick spoke out Wednesday about his protest of police shootings and perceived mistreatment of minority communities, the same day that the NFL’s top executive weighed in on the controversy.

Safety Eric Reid joined Kaepernick by kneeling during the National Anthem of San Francisco’s 4th preseason game, and so far he is the only teammate to do so. His jerseys are now sold-out across America because people are supporting him. I want to stand and cheer for all the people and the loss of life of every race, religion, and gender defending that flag.

He spoke at length to reporters after team practice in Santa Clara Wednesday.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick passes against the San Diego Chargers during the first half of a preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. I love what different guys have said and done. “This is an open discussion that I have with many people, not just my woman”. But in the past 10 days, she’s sold around 10 Kaepernick jerseys at full price.

Kaepernick added, “People are getting lost in what the true message is and don’t want to address what is really is and address the issues, and that’s really the problem”.

“And, for me, that support is something I have to give back to the communities for that cause, because that’s what their belief is, that’s what my belief is”. We’ve seen social activism in the National Basketball Association, so it would not surprise me to see some players joining in.

According to Kaepernick, he believes there are also other personalities in the league who would like to join the protests but avoid doing so due to the possible repercussions of their actions.

“She is Muslim. Her family is Muslim”. He was also asked if he’s converted to Islam. “But I have great respect for the religion”.

Stephen Curry is one of the global ambassadors of basketball, having won the last two MVP awards, and his words have a lot of sway with the people who look up to him. But I think this comes about with people’s fears over this protest as well as the Islamophobia in this country.

Warriors superstar Steph Curry has weighed in.
