Chief Perez said the suspect was wearing hinged handcuffs and shackles when he escaped police custody.

On Friday, police say Perez was alone in a detective office interview room when he broke the hinge of his handcuffs and escaped with one cuff attached to a table and one cuff still on his right wrist.

He then places both hands together before resting his head over them, seemingly to hide the free hand, as he sat calmly while a police detective checked on him.

Chief Perez said the accused killer then climbed onto a chair and through the drop ceiling.

After bolting from the station, Perez stole a Ford F-250 work truck from a nearby parking lot and remained on the lam until 8 p.m. Tuesday when cops finally found him again.

Police said a witness told investigators he thought the truck thief was limping.

The vehicle was later found in a neighborhood east of downtown Las Vegas.

Police say Perez, who also uses the name Alfonso Perez, is a homicide suspect who escaped from custody at a police detective bureau while awaiting questioning about the August 27, 2016, shooting death of a 31-year-old man at a McDonald’s restaurant.

Alonso Perez didn’t resist arrest, and the police chief said another person in the apartment wasn’t charged with a crime. He was no longer wearing the handcuff and the ankle chain.

His girlfriend said the 31-year-old was a respectful man who shied away from confrontation.

The 25-year-old Las Vegas man who escaped custody after fatally shooting a father of four outside a fast food restaurant was recaptured Tuesday evening, police said.

The North Las Vegas chief said police are looking into whether interview room ceilings need to be modified, though officials noted the building is leased and modification could affect the fire code.

According to the Clark County Detention Center’s booking files, Perez faces several charges, including: domestic battery, discharging a gun at or into an occupied structure, vehicle, or craft and assault with a deadly weapon.

Perez was re-arrested late Tuesday, when police and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrived at an apartment not far from where the stolen truck he abandoned earlier had been found, the police chief said.

Murder, use of a firearm, escape and auto theft charges were added Wednesday, the police chief said.

“We have been in communication with the Robinson family directly when the escape happened, and also soon after he was captured, and they’ve been exceptional with us and that’s been really appreciated”, the chief said.

The detectives who had planned to interview the suspect when he escaped last week are still working on the case, Chief Alexander Perez said.
