Westbrook police said they have been searching for a 10-foot snake since June after a woman reported seeing it near a playground.
According to a press release issued by Westbrook police Capt. Sean Lally, a resident reported finding the snake skin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 near the boat launch along Riverbank Park.
Is Wessie Back? Large piece of snake skin found near ME river.
The shedded skin of a large snake was recently found in a wooded area of Westbrook, Maine.
Westbrook Police Officers responded, photographed, collected, and tagged the skin which will be examined in attempts to determine what type of snake shed it and what risks this type of snake poses to public safety. The almost 10-foot-long snake put some residents on edge, as it was sighted in an area where children often play.
That sighting set off a flurry of would-be snake spotters looking for the reptile, which was soon dubbed “Wessie” by residents.
