“There was a power cut”. Reacting to BJP’s allegation that the CM is playing “shallow politics” over rape, he said, “Yes we are in politics and it’s politics against crime”.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three men on suspicion of the gang rape of a five-year-old girl in east Delhi on the same evening.

Angry crowds have gathered in India’s capital New Delhi accusing police of failing to act over the rape of a toddler.

“Some of the locals then barged into the house and caught them (the alleged perpetrators) before handing them over to us”, the officer said.

However, on this occasion the little girl was taken by one of the suspect to his house where him and two other of his friends carryout the terrible deed. “We did not expect her to survive the kind of injuries she has”.

Both girls are in a stable condition in hospital.

A run of recent attacks has revived dread and public fury over India’s inability to halt girls and long-term violence against women.

In these two incidents there can certainly be no talk of “oh, she asked for it” or “she was dressed inappropriately”, which is the first line of defence for most people trying to explain away rape.

“They [police] are not doing anything to arrest the rapists”. The girl was later found by the locals in a park and was profusely bleeding.

Shedding even more light on just how deep-rooted backward views about women are in a few portions of Indian society, a Gujarat High Court had initially denied an abortion to a 14-year-old girl who had been raped.

“Woke up to 2 incidents of gangrape of a 2.5 year old n 5 year old”.

Talking to reporters after meeting the victims of of brutal gangrapes, Kejriwal put the onus of providing security to the people of Delhi on the Centre, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi is answerable for the deteriorating law and order.

The chief minister, who visited the two victims in the hospital, told mediapersons that the AAP government was “ready to provide security” to Delhi’s citizens.

“Delhi police has completely failed to provide safety”. “What are PM and his LG doing?” The Home Minister of Madhya Pradur also blamed a Swiss tourist for her rape because she didn’t tell police of her travel plans.

It is quite sickening to see a matter as sensitive as the rape of innocent girls meriting this kind of insensitive and misogynistic response from politicians.
