Poll finds Clinton, Trump virtually tied in Florida

A new poll finds that Hillary Clinton’s near 100 percent lock on African-Americans is starting to erode as a new poll is showing a large block just turned into Donald Trump voters.

The newest poll numbers are a dramatic shift from Clinton’s commanding 15-point lead in aggregated polls in early August, when she was enjoying a strong push from the Democratic National Convention and avoiding the spotlight while Trump stumbled through several controversies.

Both candidates have negative favorability ratings in the state, pollsters found. Trump is viewed favorably by only 33 percent of likely voters and unfavorably by 50 percent. Trump has also surged to leads in important battleground states including Florida and OH, although some recent polls show Clinton hanging on to slim margins in those states.

The New York Times’ liberal editorial page similarly concluded “real damage had been done” because Clinton had written off a group of voters by saying they were “irredeemable”. “She is more concerned about the tightening of the race in Florida, Nevada and OH”. Mitt Romney won the state by 8 points in 2012 over President Barack Obama.

Richard Perez, 53, a professional stagehand who lives in Concord, is among the disaffected. Bernie Sanders out of the race, he is leaning towards Stein. “Clinton may be banking that simply not being Donald Trump will provide her an exploitable edge for the election”.

Clinton also has a significant lead over Trump among black voters, 88 percent to 4 percent.

The poll notes sizable differences in candidate preference by education, age and religion.

-White voters with no college degree.

Trump is favored by 45 percent of likely voters in the state while Clinton is backed by 42 percent.

It all points to a Trump advantage.
