Poll finds voters split on Iran deal

As debate resumed on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., accused Democratic senators of refusing to let the Senate vote on the deal.

The series of votes was a last-minute turnaround after the House had initially been scheduled this week to consider a disapproval resolution, under a procedure laid out in the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, which gave Congress a role in reviewing the deal.

Republicans point to polls showing Americans don’t like the Iran deal. And it brings to mind multiple attempts by the Republicans to repeal Obamacare; the Senate failed to do so in July, and the House has voted to roll back the healthcare program more than 50 times.

Gallagher said the Vatican hopes full implementation of the accord “will ensure the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program” and “will be a definitive step toward greater stability and security in the region“.

Republican members of Congress are united in their opposition to the Iran nuclear deal.

Tuesday’s vote of 56-42 yielded the same result as last week’s, setting the stage for McConnell to file his controversial amendment.

It’s possible that the Republican maneuver could peel off enough Democrats to get the amendment attached to the resolution but the move also has the potential to backfire, as some lawmakers who opposed the Iran deal, like Sen.

“After the agreement is implemented, illegal sanctions imposed upon Iran by Western countries will be lifted, a lot of Chinese companies will have more chances to cooperate with Iran”, he said.

Before today I didn’t know the name of Senator James Lankford from Oklahoma.

Supporters assure the deal cuts off all avenues for Iran to make a nuclear weapon.

McConnell has also declined throughout the process to insist the deal be presented to the Senate as a treaty for a two-thirds vote.

If the vote is not reversed, President Barack Obama will have won a victory.

Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Lubbock, said in an email statement he was concerned that lifting sanctions, which would grant Iran about $100 billion, would allow Iran to fund terrorist groups in neighboring countries.

McConnell said Democrats should be forced to vote on these issues so their constituents understood the gravity of their votes in favor of the deal.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) said it was pointless to repeat the vote on the Iran accord when Congress has yet to pass a bill to keep the government running when its current funding expires at month’s end.
