It was also their lowest preseason ranking since they were ranked 19th before they won the national championship in 2000.

The media & coaches are on the same page in terms of Georgia within the preseason college football rankings. FSU was the state’s only program ranked a year ago, when it opened at No. 1.

Ohio State became the first team in AP poll history to be named the unanimous No. 1 team with 61 first-place votes. TCU comes in at No. 2, Alabama at No. 3, and Baylor at No. 4.

The AP Poll is the last of the preseason polls to be released.

Auburn was sixth adopted by final yr’s runner-up, Oregon, at seven and USC, Georgia and Florida State to spherical out the highest 10. LSU comes in at No. 14 while Ole Miss and Arkansas follow at No. 17 and 18, respectively. Stanford is 21st, Arizona is 22nd, Boise State is 23rd, Missouri is 24th and Tennessee is 25th. That was verified with the preseason Associated Press poll released today. That includes the top four schools, Georgia and Notre Dame. The Badgers are the reigning champs of the Big Ten West, and even though they have to replace last season’s national leading rusher, Melvin Gordon, his successor, Corey Clement, has big expectations to be Wisconsin’s next top back.

No Texas schools other than TCU and Baylor cracked the initial AP poll. Clemson was unranked in 2011 and finished 22nd.

This marks the eighth time that the Buckeyes have been ranked as the top team to begin the year. That includes each of the last three years.

Nick Saban yet again has a preseason top five team in Tuscaloosa. While it’s interesting, it has no bearing on the College Football Playoff, though many playoff committee members likely use this poll as well as others, as a rough guide of who to watch to start the season.
