The decision was taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of CEC Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, in order to review arrangements for the third Phase of the LG elections in Punjab, including printing of ballot papers, training of poling staff, logistics and security issues.
Voting for the local bodies elections in Islamabad started at 7:00 in the morning which concluded at 5:30 in the evening without any interval.
Over two thousand and four hundred candidates are in the fray for the slots of chairman, vice chairman and councilors.
Some 625 Army troops and 700 personnel of Rangers besides police were deployed in the capital for the objective.
Over 684,000 voters will elect their representatives in, as the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is expected to face a challenge only from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Voters have turned up in large numbers at the polling stations to use their right of franchise.
The results further show that PTI has so far won 26 seats followed by PML-N which is second with 10 seats. The Pakistan People’s Party, once considered to be the only federal party, has managed to field only 81 candidates in the electoral field. The PTI leader also censured Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for not extending the polling time.
The spokesman said the ECP had given powers of first class magistrate to presiding officers for conducting fair elections.

The PTI also accused the election commission of announcing delimitation at the last minute giving an edge to the PML -N by increasing the number of union councils to 32 in rural areas where it had won the National Assembly seat while decreasing to 23 the number of councils in the constituency in which PTI’s Asad Umar was elected. Besides this 351 female candidates are competing for the women seats while 248 candidates are in the run for the labour seats.
