Polls: Clinton dominates South; Trump, Cruz scrap for Super Tuesday edge
U.S. Rep. Peter King praised Marco Rubio’s performance at Thursday’s Republican presidential debate while blasting front-runner Donald Trump for the lack of details in his plans to address immigration, health care and terrorism. “If Trump were to defeat Cruz in Texas, it would be an natural disaster, an absolute quake”.

From the lectern, Trump showed off a water bottle, reminiscent of the one the Florida senator grabbed during his 2013 State of the Union response. Christie dropped out after a poor showing in the New Hampshire primary this month and endorsed Trump on Friday.
Eleven states and one US territory hold Democratic primaries or caucuses on Tuesday. Trump has said he would build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, U.S. trade negotiators are weak and it’s risky to take in Syrian refugees because terrorists could be among them.
On CNN, Trump explained his own brand of populism. “I said I’m about to witness history”.
“The party cannot be saved, but the country still can be”, he wrote.
In his voicemail, the junior Florida senator sought Christie’s support and assured him that he still had a bright future in public service – and Christie didn’t appreciate the words, sources close to the governor said.
“It’s time to take the mask off Donald Trump”. He said he’d assumed that Christie would not have made an endorsement at this stage of the campaign.
Rallying several thousand in an airport hangar here Saturday, attacks against Rubio rolled off of Trump’s tongue: “lightweight Rubio”, who has a “little mouth on him”, Trump said, is actually a “worse” liar than Cruz, Trump declared.
For Clinton, South Carolina was a moment to wipe away bitter memories of her loss to Barack Obama there eight years ago.
“#NeverTrump. Agree? Add your name here”, Rubio tweeted.
“A presidential nominee who’s ideologically inflexible represents a greater challenge in the Northeast than a nominee who’s ideologically malleable and scattered, which is Trump”, Dent said.
Trump is not the second choice of many voters, but enough of either Cruz or Rubio’s support would go to Trump that consolidation of the race would not necessarily put him at a big disadvantage.
The line-up Tuesday includes several Southern states that form the core of Cruz’s desired path to the nomination, but he finds himself trailing Trump everywhere but his home state of Texas. “You know what? We are going to cut their taxes too”, Rubio said. “He inherited his money”, Rubio said. However, she has a substantial lead among superdelegates, the Democratic Party leaders who can vote for the candidate of their choice at this summer’s national convention, regardless of how their states vote.
In South Carolina, exit polls showed Clinton winning big with nearly every constituency.
With Super Tuesday approaching, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz escalated their argument Saturday that Donald Trump is a conservative impostor, trying to make the case to voters they can keep the ascendant billionaire from claiming the Republican presidential nomination.
