Pompeo: No Sanctions Relief for North Korea Before Complete Denuclearization

More than 24 hours after the summit ended, no one in the administration would openly say to what extent Mattis had been consulted before the decision to cancel exercises.

Tokyo has expressed some concern about the cancellation of military exercises.

“This regime has the worst human-rights record on Earth”. Mr Trump said he wanted to see U.S. troops withdraw from the South.

Kim “is using this moment to sanitize his global image and prove how supreme he is at home”, Park warned.

The North Koreans seem to be in closer lockstep with President Trump than the president’s own Secretary of State.

“And the sanctions relief can not take place until such time as we have demonstrated that North Korea has been completely denuclearized”.

“Really, [Kim’s] got a great personality”.

And that was just the start. “He had a lot to do with us being here today”, Trump said.

Trump replied by praising Kim as a “tough guy”.

“We also understand that the United States maintains its commitment to defend allies and the Japan-U.S. security commitment and U.S. forces in Japan posture remain unchanged”, Kono said.

Baier then pressed further, adding, “He has still done some really bad things”.

“Yeah, but so have a lot of other people”.

Trump and Kim met in Singapore on Tuesday – an unprecedented encounter that saw the leader of the world’s most powerful democracy shake hands with the third generation scion of a dynastic dictatorship, standing as equals in front of their nations’ flags.

“Loves his people”, Trump told Van Susteren. And a lot of things happen.

Dear journalists, once again: When someone declares war on you and on freedom of expression, you have two options.

Al Jazeera’s Wayne Hay, reporting from Seoul, said that the meeting was an opportunity for the three countries “to show that they are in the same page” when it comes to the issue of North Korea and denuclearisation.

Pompeo flew from Seoul to China’s capital, Beijing, later Thursday for a meeting with President Xi Jinping, whose country is believed to wield considerable influence with North Korea as its chief ally and economic lifeline.

South Korean Minister of Defence, Itsunori Onodera, said: “We would like to seek an understanding of this between Japan, the United States and South Korea”.

Following the summit on Tuesday, a joint statement between the two leaders also revealed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and officials from the North would follow up on negotiations “at the earliest possible date”. The summit statement provided no details on when Pyongyang would give up its nuclear weapons programme or how the dismantling might be verified.

Here it is. According to Lee Yun-keol, who used to be a part of the North Korean Guard Command unit but is now a defector in South Korea, said that the supreme leader’s stools contains valuable information.

So it’s clear that hawkish tactics and name-calling don’t work. Jong Un is widely suspected of killing of his half-brother. It trivializes millions of North Koreans’ suffering under Kim’s rule and feeds Pyongyang’s propaganda machine.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe praised the summit “as a step in a comprehensive resolution” and promised more cooperation with Washington, Beijing, Seoul, Moscow, and others to resolve the lineup of issues North Korea will face if it is honest about wanting to rejoin the worldwide community.
