Ponder leads two fourth-quarter scoring drives in 49ers’ 31-24 win

The San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos both have plenty of questions at the quarterback position. Yet he was Siemian’s favorite target in the early going Saturday, with two receptions in the first four plays of the Broncos’ opening drive and finished the first half with four receptions for 57 yards.

If Kaepernick’s arm responds well in practice in the coming days, his exhibition debut could come Friday night when the 49ers host the Green Bay Packers.

Ponder, who was out of football last season, was added by the 49ers (1-1) after backup quarterback Thad Lewis suffered a season-ending knee injury in their exhibition opener against Houston last week.

The Broncos (1-1), also in search of a quarterback after the retirement of Peyton Manning and free agency departure of Brock Osweiler, did not get a decisive performance from their contenders. On the first series, Reid also showed he can still deliver a hard hit, doing so at the goal line to almost stop a C.J. Anderson touchdown run.

As the San Francisco 49ers get ready to take on the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field on Saturday night, Niner Noise joined forces with the Broncos’ FanSided site, Predominantly Orange, to discuss each team gearing up for this preseason bout.

On Saturday, Sieman started the game in which he completed 10 of 14 passes for 75 yards against one interception. Treggs had a 25-yard catch on a pass from Jeff Driskel, but he left the game after that play with an MCL tear; He was walking after the game and will not need surgery. Kenneth Acker picked off a pass to seal the game. He would lead the Denver offense into several scoring opportunities. He opened the game by leading a 93-yard drive that included Ted Ginn Jr.’s 61-yard touchdown reception.

Gabbert started half of the games in 2015, tossing for over 2,000 yards with ten touchdowns and seven interceptions. It will be interesting to see what ends up happening and what improvements have been made from last week. Rookie Paxton Lynch will close things out.

Another offensive performer who stepped it up against the Bears was running back Kapri Bibbs.

Our algorithms now expect Sanchez to earn the starting gig, projecting him for 3,668 passing yards, 20.41 touchdowns and 15.58 interceptions on 552 attempts this upcoming season. It might be all three for 16. For better or worse, by the end of the week, the 49ers should have a much better idea of who their starting quarterback will be for the opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

“You just never know”, running back C.J. Anderson said.

– Indianapolis Colts rookie guard Joe Haeg injured his right ankle after getting rolled up on and did not return to the 19-18 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. On back-to-back plays, Robinson knocked a pass away and then gave up a first-down completion. Blaine Gabbert stepped in for injured starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and was average at best, going 4-10 for 63 yards, although Gabbert did connect with Vance McDonald for a 43-yard TD. Taylor zipped a 13-yard touchdown pass over the middle to LeSean McCoy to cap his fourth and final series. Under the steel iron rule of their new head coach, who refused to back down even in the face of a potential walk-out from then Philadelphia Eagles superstar DeMarco Murray, Johnny Manziel could blossom into the National Football League star he was initially pegged to become.
