Pontiac Silverdome will come down in 2016
The Silverdome, which opened in 1975, was also home to Detroit Pistons from 1978 to 1988, hosted Wrestlemania III, Super Bowl XVI, and several World Cup matches in 1994.

The Silverdome has been for sale for about six months with a price tag of $29 million and though there have been potential buyers, it’s time to move on.
The once publicly owed Silverdome’s inflatable domed roof is now gone.
The property’s owner has shifted strategies and is now preparing to tear down the empty and battered 40-year-old stadium next year in the belief that the 127-acre site would be more marketable without the Silverdome than with it. Robert Mihelich, a vice president at CBRE, says the stadium has deteriorated due to weather.
“There are plans to begin demolition on the Silverdome in the spring of 2016”, said Kristie King, a broker with CBRE, representing property owner Triple Investment Group.
The goal of demolition is to make the land more attractive for future redevelopment, purchase or lease.
Pontiac Silverdome, the former home of the Lions and Pistons, will be demolished and the site prepared for redevelopment.

It was built in 1975 for about $55 million and sold to Triple Investment Group in 2009 for just $583,000. Other events included rock concerts, soccer and a Mass in 1987 by Pope John Paul II.
