Pope Francis to Visit Mexico
“During this period”, explained Pope Francis, “the catecheses will be reflections inspired by a few aspects of the relationship – which we may certainly define as indissoluble – between the Church and the family, with a view to the common good of the whole Christian community”.

In his address, the Pope also added that the only official documents of the 2014 Synod are his two addresses and the concluding report, and reassured the group that “Catholic doctrine on marriage has not been touched”, and that “it has been preserved in its integrity”.
Pope Francis asked people to join him in praying that “the enthusiasm of the synod fathers, animated by the Holy Spirit, would energize the impulse of the church to abandon its old nets and start fishing again, trusting in the word of its Lord”.
This same desire, it would seem, is also shared by many Catholic communities, families (of various types), and individuals.
And, in a surprisingly frank statement to the joint meeting of the House and Senate, Francis called for an end to the death penalty, a position backed by the U.S. Conference of Bishops, said Bishop Curtis Guillory of the Diocese of Beaumont.
Pope Francis has set the record straight when it comes to the Catholic doctrine on marriage. Conservatives have cheered the seemingly implicit endorsement, while liberals have questioned how much the Pope knew about her case since news broke on Tuesday of Francis’ meeting with Davis. “They are our sons and daughters, our brothers and sisters, our neighbours and our colleagues”.
Among practising Catholics, 25 percent said they favour gay marriage while 37 percent would like to see civil unions.
The Vatican is disciplining a Polish-born pope who came out as gay for speaking out as a synod, or meeting of bishops, gathers in Rome to discuss the intricacies of the Church’s stance on issues related to family, including, potentially, homosexuality.
Pope Francis on Sunday defended the Roman Catholic Church’s views on marriage as he opened a synod on the family.
Several cardinals on both sides of the argument have warned that the Vatican risks a schism over the controversy as church attitudes toward same-sex couples remained a flashpoint issue.
A myriad of hard family matters are expected to be debated over the next three weeks, including how to minister to divorced and remarried Catholics who want to take communion.
But key participants said they did not expect any radical modifications to Church teachings on family issues.

The Genesis story, the pope said in his homily, makes clear that the “drama of solitude” experienced by too many people – the elderly, the abandoned, widows and widowers, migrants, the persecuted – is not part of God’s plan.
