The jumbotrons are coming out for the pope’s speech to Congress.
Washington is the first stop for the Pope, who’s scheduled to meet with President Obama and visit D.C. cathedrals in the day before his Capitol speech.
“The go to of Pope Francis to the D.R. Capitol is a historic second for the nation”, Boehner stated in a press release.
The outspoken pope is expected to challenge Democrats and Republicans on abortion, immigration and climate change, the issue of his recent encyclical.
During his Washington visit, Francis will become the first pope to address Congress, although there are more than 77 million Catholics in the United States, approximately one-quarter of the population. During the last few days of his visit, he’ll make stops in New York before traveling to Philadelphia for his trip’s main event, the Papal Mass for the World Meeting of Families.
