Over the weekend, many Indians woke up to the new reality that they might not be able to access most of the popular porn websites. Web users are reporting that they can no longer access some of the popular adult video sites as trying to access the web page only leads to a blank page.
As said above, so far Department of Telecom, which is handled by Telecom Minister Ravishankar Prasad, has not publicly communicated whether India has formally started blocking porn sites for the Indian web users and the reasons for it. Apparently there has been a movement in India against pornographic websites.
It is an issue for the government to deal with. Sources in the Department of Telecommunication, which comes under the ministry of communications and information technology, said a notification had been issued under Section 79 (b) of IT Act under which internet service providers could be penalized for not following government orders.
Last month, the Supreme Court declined to pass an interim order to block websites which have pornographic content. “Such interim orders can not be passed by this court”.
The Twitterati simply freaked out when they heard about the reaction. The maverick genius then takes the help of several survey reports to support his arguments as he says, “It’s a proven fact by global surveys that instead of fuelling sexual crimes porn actually provides safer outlet for sexual repression”. But he had also asked the government to come up with its reply within four weeks.
“This site has been blocked as per the instructions of Competent Authority”.

Earlier Chief Justice of India HL Dattu had observed that banning the watching of porn at home would be “a violation of Article 21”, the right to personal liberty.
