Drew Storen took the bottom of the 10th and came awfully close to surrendering the walk-off win. Following a wild pitch, Joe Panik was walked intentionally.

Bumgarner overcame a 31-pitch first inning and handed the bullpen a 4-1 lead. After an intentional walk and a liner to the first baseman, Buster Posey walked on four pitches to bring the winning run home.

Cain came up with two on and no outs in the sixth but he hit a hard bunt back to Happ, who nailed the lead runner. The Blue Jays have allowed five runs in their last three games and three or less runs in eight of their last 10 games.

Suarez, perhaps not wanting to upstage his veteran catcher, said, “No, we were on the same page”.

“We’re not going to lose these one-run games the entire year”. He s moving up to Triple-A Sacramento after five starts at Double-A Richmond in which he posted a 2.33 ERA, struck out 30 and walked six in 27 innings. “It just didn’t go our way”.

Peavy walked two of his five batters in the first inning while giving up a pair of singles, putting himself in an immediate jam. He allowed Saunders’ RBI single but got out of the inning without further damage. During that hour, the only hit the Giants managed off Happ was a bunt single by shortstop Kelby Tomlinson with one out in the third.

Giants: RHP Johnny Cueto (4-1, 3.02) starts Thursday night’s game at the Arizona Diamondbacks. The combined shutout was Happ’s first since June 26, 2014, a game in which he went the first 7 2/3 innings in a 7-0 win over the Chicago White Sox.

“He thinks differently”, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of Happ’s new approach.

At the plate: Posey hit a spinning grounder through the shift in the first inning, breaking an 0-for-18 streak.

The Blue Jays scored a pair of runs in the eighth against Cory Gearrin on Martin’s sacrifice fly and Smoak’s pinch hit single. The Blue Jays learned earlier in the day that their second-round pick in 2013, RHP Clinton Hollon, was suspended 50 games for violation of Major League Baseball’s drug policy. If he comes out of it OK he will start a rehab assignment on Saturday…. Toronto increased its lead to 2-0 in the seventh after a one-out triple by Michael Saunders.

Brandon Belt was hit by a pitch from Toronto Blue Jays reliever Ryan Tepera leading off the 13th inning.

After blanking the Giants last night, the Jays are now 4-1 in their last five road games, 4-1 in their last five games following a win, and 6-2 in their last eight games overall. Biagini had a good season for Double-A Richmond a year ago but the Giants had too many other pitchers to protect in the Rule 5 draft, and the Blue Jays snapped him up.

In the sixth inning of Toronto’s 3-1 victory against the Giants, the Toronto left fielder tried to chase down Brandon Crawford’s foul popup, lost his footing over the bullpen mound and the ball ricocheted off his head as he slid on his knees toward the rolled-up tarp. “When we executed it, it was pretty much right on, when you don’t execute it, that’s what happened with the Encarnacion ball”, Peavy said.

By the time Bumgarner got out of that third inning, he had already thrown 65 pitches, while Stroman’s total was also elevated, at 54 pitches.
