Possible sighting of father-and-son fugitives Mark and Gino Stocco

The pair are still on the run more than a week later, despite authorities throwing everything they have into tracking the duo down.

TWO “modern day bushrangers” hiding in bushland on the Victorian-NSW border were spotted on CCTV in south-western NSW over the weekend. And any sighting of the many, many white Landcruisers that grace the countryside means that police are constantly diverting resources to potentially consolidate any possible leads.

The father-son duo has been fleeing police for eight years for other previous crimes but the comb-hunting for them started after they fired at police offices in Wagga Wagga last week.

WANGARATTA will still continue as a Command Centre of the manhunt for armed fugitives Gino and Mark Stocco following a confirmed sighting of the pair at Gundagai.

A large police roadblock on the border failed to stop the pair crossing into NSW, and police said they are using back roads and bush tracks.

“We haven’t found any stashes yet.” a police spokesperson told Sunrise.

“But we would much prefer to have that information and discount it than not get that information”.

Police vow wanted fugitives Gino and Mark Stocco won’t escape Victoria as they widen the search area.

Police said a white Toyota LandCruiser with South Australian number plates S415 AZL was filled with fuel, and allegedly left the premises without a payment being made at 9pm on Saturday.

They include YHS085 (Victoria), S415AZL (South Australia), ZUE632 (Victoria) and BV70WP (NSW).

According to Victoria’s Assistant Commissioner Rick Nugent the Stoccos maintain a distance of hundreds of kilometres to evade the police. The driver later sped from the servo without paying for the fuel.

“We’ve been hot on their heels … unfortunately part of the challenge for us is the weapon they have, a high-powered rifle, and we need to ensure we can protect the public, the police, the community and the fugitives themselves”, he said in Wangaratta yesterday.
