Severe storms in Florida resulted in tornadoes, wind damage and flooding as part of a larger storm system moving through the East Coast on Tuesday.
Images submitted by viewers to the news station’s Facebook page showed downed trees and damage to the exteriors of at least two homes.
The storms also left damage that has yet been evaluated in Alabama and in MS, as the possibility of tornadoes hitting those states is being determined.
Early reports from Pensacola ABC affiliate WEAR-TV indicate possible entrapments inside homes affected by the storm.
Tsubooka added that fire crews were investigating reports that some residents may have been trapped in the rubble of destroyed homes, but she said several of the reports had already proved to be unfounded.
Four schools in North Escambia were closed Tuesday due to tornado damage. The National Weather Service said snow accumulations could range from 2 to 4 inches in the Hudson Valley to as much as 18 inches in areas between Rochester and Buffalo. “Numerous winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings are in effect for this event”, mostly in the Northeast.
A treacherous mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain caused vehicle crashes from the Mid-Atlantic states through Pennsylvania to northern New England on Tuesday, a day after twisters tore through parts of the South. Bitter temperatures and biting winds had much of the northeastern United States bundling up this weekend.
Freezing rain fell throughout the Washington area overnight after the major storm system had already dropped several inches of snow Monday, leaving roads and sidewalks slick.
The school was in session, but Mississippi Department of Education spokeswoman Patrice Guilfoyle said she had no reports of injuries.

“Snow is expected on the back side of the surface low from eastern Kentucky to western NY state where the cold air will be deepest”, the National Weather Service said. From New York and Boston to Providence, R.I., and Hartford, Conn., temperatures Sunday morning dipped to as low as 40 below zero.
