Postponed IndyCar Series race at Texas finally goes green
It had been originally scheduled to go at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, but heavy downpour earlier that day made IndyCar and track officials postpone it to Sunday.

“Everybody loses in this deal, unfortunately”, Gossage said.
The accident on Lap 42 knocked the two Americans from the race.
The 248-lap race needs to reach the halfway point to be declared official.
IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden broke his right collarbone in a scary crash at Texas on Sunday after his vehicle was slammed to its side and slid along the frontstretch wall with the top of the cockpit exposed.
The crash also caused damage to the barrier that needed extensive fix work done to it, but the race was red flagged before the work could be completed as a storm hit the oval track with just 70 laps in the books.
Gossage said about half of the foam blocks were removed from the SAFER Barrier after Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. I was trying to stay a little bit lower because I knew Josef was coming. He was loaded onto a stretcher and taken to the infield care center before being transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for evaluation. He was expected to be released from the hospital Sunday evening.
The race was postponed to August 27.
TMS president Eddie Gossage said the schedule for the chosen Saturday in late August will feature a practice session, an autograph session with all the drivers and then the completion of the Firestone 600K. But he said IndyCar discovered an issue it felt needed to be addressed in Turn 2 soon before the race was scheduled to begin, with water on the apron near where cars exit pit road to get back onto the racing surface.
“It’s pretty specific that we need to pick up where we left off”, Frye said.
“Frustrating, but we’re going to work that out”, Gossage said.
This was the 28th scheduled IndyCar race at Texas, and the first since 2001 that was postponed. The last time an IndyCar race started and resumed another day was at Brazil in 2011, when the race was completed the next day. Jay Frye, IndyCar president of competition and operations, said Sunday the Canadian held the lead.
