Potentially risky heat expected on Thursday, Friday
A cool front is coming through Sunday, giving us thunderstorm chances and highs in the upper 80s to low 90s all next week.

Locally, predicted high temperatures are 89 degrees today (one higher than Tuesday), 94 Thursday and 92 Friday, and tonight’s low is only going to fall to 76. World-Herald archives indicate that a warning was issued in July 2012, and weather service meteorologist Dave Fobert said that is most likely the last time such a warning was issued. Drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks to get out of the heat and get into an air conditioned space.
It also warned against leaving children and pets in vehicles, which can reach deadly temperatures in minutes. “This will prompt a heat advisory at the least and possibly a heat warning should these conditions persist four or more consecutive days”. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create risky health conditions for those not taking proper precautions.
A unsafe heat wave is stopping in for a visit. Drink lots of water even if you’re not thirsty and wear, loose light clothing.
People should also be on the lookout for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
On average, we have 11 days per year in the Twin Cities with a high temperature of 90 degrees or warmer. Minnesota and Wisconsin could remain under a heat watch through Friday.
Excessive Heat Watch is issued when the heat index value could reach or exceed 110 degrees within 24 to 48 hours.
Friday, the high will be near 99, with a heat index as high as 109, according to the weather service. A heat index of this magnitude is in the danger range for the likelihood of heat disorders with prolonged exposure or strenuous activity.
