The billion-dollar-plus prize won in the January 13 drawing was the largest lotto jackpot awarded in US history and was split by three winners.

The top prize for Wednesday’s multi-state Powerball drawing is now $422 million. One $2 ticket increases your chances to win by one in 292.2 million.

There were no winners in the July 23, $391 million game, rolling the jackpot over into Wednesday’s drawing, which will leave a single game victor the option of cashing in on a onetime, cash option payment of $291.8 million.

The jackpot has been won only 3 times this year compared to a dozen times in 2015. More than 1.4 million players won something from the Powerball.

Thirty-three Kansas Lottery players have become millionaires playing Powerball or its predecessor, Lotto America, a spokesman said.

The next POWERBALL drawing will be held Wednesday, July 27, at 10:59 p.m. ET, tickets must be purchased by 10:00 p.m. ET to be eligible for this drawing. Five white balls are drawn from one set and the one red Powerball is picked from another set.

Powerball is played in 44 states, but tickets aren’t sold in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah. The winning tickets were sold in California, Tennessee and Florida.

Jackpot prizes are paid in 30 annual installments or as a one-time, lump-sum payment.

Wednesday night’s drawing offers the biggest prize since May 7.
