Chopin reminds players to get their tickets before 9 pm tonight before PowerBall sales end.
The current record held for the biggest lottery jackpot is £42,008,610, which was won in 1996 by three anonymous winners.
Winners have 180 days from the date of their winning drawing to claim their prize before the money will be redirected to help California public schools, according to lottery officials.
The highest jackpot recorded in the past decade topped $590 million, awarded as nearly $371 million in a cash lump sum to a Florida woman in 2013.
One member of the group, Steven West, said he purchased the winning ticket and was the first to discover the group’s good fortune.
Some 65 people have won £1 million or more on the Lotto since the introduction of new Millionaire Raffle in October, which guarantees at least one millionaire per draw.
The Powerball drawing is an estimated $300 million, and Friday’s Mega Millions game has a $130 million jackpot. The ticket correctly matched all five white balls drawn, 12-36-38-54-61, but not the red Powerball 22, to win $1 million, less applicable tax withholding. Tickets are $2 each.
Powerball is played in 43 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
