Powerball Jackpot Hits Staggering $1.5 Billion
Customers stand in line to purchase Powerball tickets at Russ’s Market in Lincoln, Neb., Monday, Jan. 11, 2016.

Lottery officials said they were not sure what the record is for the highest percentage of combinations in play before anyone won.
The two most common “Powerball” numbers are 7 and 15 (9.48 percent).
Find your nearest Powerball retailer by visiting the New Jersey lottery website.
According to the Arkansas Lottery Director, in one week, the state sold $19 million worth of Powerball tickets, nearly triple the amount it typically sells. You win the $1.5 billion jackpot if you match the first five numbers in any order and match the Powerball number. Then they get the grand prize.
The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are one in 292.2 million.
It’s also wrong, though there are anomalies. That’s like flipping a quarter 28 times in a row and landing on heads every single time.
There’s more of a rationale behind this claim.
Winners of the top prize are paid in 30 annual installments or as a one-time, lump sum payment.
“It never occurred to anyone that we would pass the 1 billion dollar mark”. The cash option for Wednesday’s drawing will be $868 million. “We’re very concerned about people playing responsibly and not overspending”, Gary Grief said.
How did the jackpot get so big? .
One of the most persistent misconceptions, officials said, is that winners risk tax trouble if they opt for an annuity but die before all 29 payments are made.
The Texas Lottery Commission said they are seeing more participation from people across the state than ever more, many of that is from office pools.
Even if you have access to that kind of money, it might not be the best investment. The odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 292 million.
You won’t become a billionaire on Wednesday night, but go ahead and try anyway.

FiveThirtyEight’s Walt Hickey wrote about the proposed rule change back in July 2015, and his predictions of an increase in Powerball jackpot totals was spot on. You don’t want to blow it all in one spot.
