Powerball Jackpot Jumps Again to Record $1.5 Billion

That means the odds of randomly picking your own name out that list of Americans (1 in 323 million) are just a bit worse than winning the Powerball. The staggering $1.4 billion Powerball jackpot number on Wednesday has captured a great deal of attention nationwide.

It hit the billion dollar mark about a week after that. The chances of winning are 1 in 292,000,000. Seven of the 26 possible Powerballs haven’t come up at all. The pool is now sitting at $1.4 billion, and will continue to rise as ticket sales boom. By comparison, California Gov. Jerry Brown last week proposed a $122.6 billion general fund budget for the nation’s most populous state.
