The current jackpot, an estimated $800 million, is the largest such prize in U.S. history.
With more than a half a billion dollars on the line, those waiting in long lines to buy tickets, say the possibilities of how to use the money are endless.
Powerball ticket sales topped $2,400 Thursday at the Citgo Wheels No. 61 gas station/convenience store on Danbury Road in New Milford.
A last-minute surge in ticket sales had been expected for Wednesday night’s draw, with Camelot saying it expected to sell 200 tickets every second during the hour before the draw closed, at 7.30pm.
Brian Coronis, owner of Coronis Market in Newport, usually doesn’t play, but often ends up being forced to buy tickets.

If there are no winners, the pot will keep growing and the next drawing will be Saturday.
“We could be on the verge of creating the first lottery billionaire”, said Gordon Medenica, director of the Maryland Lottery agency to the Washington Post.
The Wednesday Powerball drawing had an estimated jackpot of $525 million.
