The victor of the Powerball Jackpot will decide to either take a direct cash payout of $930 million due to a 38 percent tax cut, or 30 payments of over 29 years.
The winning numbers were 16-19-32-34-57 and the Powerball number 13. Gary Grief with the Texas Lottery, which is part of the Multi-State Lottery Association, said the $1.4 billion figure is definitely the world’s largest.
However, it’s true that as jackpots increase, more people typically play the game.
But since no one matched all six Powerball numbers, the newly estimated $1.3 billion jackpot is still theirs for the taking.
The Iowa Lottery said Dominguez’s prize would net $700,000 after federal and state tax withholdings.
While that might sound good in theory, there are approximately 292.2 million combinations you could play (the first five numbers range from 1 to 69, and the Powerball number ranges from 1 to 26). That increases the chances – but doesn’t guarantee – that someone will win the jackpot. They plan to use that money toward buying more tickets for the new, higher jackpot.
