Powerball winners in Florida to be revealed Wednesday

Two Florida residents came forward today to claim their one-third share of the world record $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot drawing held over a month ago. In fact, the Powerball jackpot victor in Chino Hills has one year to claim their winning ticket and get their money, according to the California lottery.

So far all that is known is that they bought their ticket at a Publix supermarket in Melbourne Beach, a small town of around 3,000 people. When asked why they sought a lump sum payment over a cash annuity, Maureen answered it was because of her age. “It’s a lot of pacing at night let me tell you”.

Ms Smith said she and Mr Kaltschmidt did not play the lottery regularly, but that the winning numbers were ones they had played for years.

She said they couldn’t believe they had a winning ticket and checked the numbers over and over. The total monthly sales for the Iowa Lottery hit $54.1 million, more than $12 million above the previous record set in February 2006.

“We just kept quiet”, Smith said, just sought legal advice.

Kaltschmidt said he has lost sleep and even weight since the news, noting that they increased security measures at their home in unincorporated Brevard.

Maureen Smith and David Kaltschmidt are taking the lump sum, which ends up being a slightly less impressive $327 million. The Florida Powerball winners are under The Nickel 95 Trust. They said they realized they had the winning numbers the next morning.
