The year’s first drawing in the multistate lottery was held Saturday night.
The largest winning jackpot ever was $656 million in a Mega Millions lottery drawing in March of 2012. The lump-sum cash prize for a single victor would have been $205 million.
The lottery drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Wednesday night and Saturday night. Five players matched five of the six numbers. If all six numbers would have matched, they would have won $300 million.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each. According to Leach, she “couldn’t believe” she won the $310.5 million Powerball jackpot, and needed her coworkers to confirm it.
For those purchasing tickets, even the smallest chance at all the money is worth it.
No victor has been selected for the Powerball since November 4.
Virginia Lottery officials expect to sell about 705,000 Powerball tickets on Saturday alone in the Commonwealth.
