Prakash Javadekar takes charge of HRD Ministry

Smriti Irani has been relieved of the Human Resource Development ministry, and dispatched to the Textile Ministry. She said that the sector has a lot of unrealised potential in terms of skilling and employment, and that it can play a very important role in scaling up the “Make In India” vision of the prime minister. Interacting with the mediapersons, he stressed his ministry’s mission will be to provide quality education to all, thereby transforming life, especially that of poor.

“Am glad NEP 2016 which has been drafted after exhaustive consultations & right now seeking feedback from citizens will soon be released”, she said.

Javadekar said she could not join the occasion because of “family reasons”.

“Thanks to Prakash ji who publicly praised my work and spoke of taking it forward”, she said.

Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), the apex chamber of textiles in India, has welcomed the appointment of Smriti Irani as the new Cabinet Minister of textiles.

“I had a word with her in the morning on phone”, the Minister said. “And I will try to deliver on all the responsibilities handed over to me by Modiji of the HRD”.

Javadekar may find himself under some pressure stepping into Irani’s shoes in the MHRD, and she seemed to have told him that.

Her silence for almost 21hours on Twitter was unusual, until she thanked PM Narendra Modi for the shift around 1pm Wednesday, putting up a fearless face, saying her new portfolio signified the faith shown by the PM and the party in her: “After Agriculture, Textiles is the second largest employer in the country which has a sizeable number of women”. “I would only say that “Kuchh to log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna” (People will talk, it is their business)”.

“If you remove a minister from one ministry and send her to another one, it is not a punishment.it is just an arrangement which has been made keeping in view the upcoming elections”, he added. “Bye bye Smriti Irani”, the student leader tweeted.

He demanded the resignations of Irani and another minister, Bandaru Dattatreya, from ministerial posts and said a case must be lodged against them for the “institutional murder” of Vemula.

“There has been an outrage in the dalit community and among students against Irani after Rohith Vemula was forced to commit suicide”.

Kanhaiya Kumar’s arrest over an alleged “anti-national” event also sparked massive protests among students and others.
