Prakash Javadekar takes charge of HRD Ministry, Smriti Irani misses the event

Union Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar took charge of office of Minister of HRD here, today.

Union Minister reiterated that he and his colleagues in the Ministry will work as Team HRD to fulfill the aspirations of the nation.

Sources said during their both formal and informal consultation process, RSS leaders along with a few members from Sangh-affiliated educational bodies reportedly often found that as HRD Minister, Smiriti Irani was not quite easy to deal with.

“This has been done for the first time in the history of India”, she said.

Javadekar said his 92-year-old mother, who stays with him. was a primary school teacher herself and he “values” the contribution of teachers to the society. “I will look at it (after taking charge)”, Javadekar said about the education policy, which among other things may bring back the Class X board exam, amend the no-detention policy in schools, promote Sanskrit and value education. “I accept this responsibility humbly and I will talk to our earlier minister, Murli Manohar Joshi”, he said.

Irani did not turn up for the event.

Irani vowed to strengthen textile and apparel sectors and speaking of the huge opportunity for skilling, the Minister said that besides improving the skills of the people already engaged in the sector, her efforts will be primarily directed towards skill development and engaging more youngsters.

When asked if she would be BJP face in UP assembly polls, Irani replied ” Kuch to log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna”. Therefore, to make education meaningful is the real challenge.

Irani’s term was confrontational, featuring run-ins with academia and students of institutions including the elite Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Delhi University, Hyderabad University and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He committed suicide on January 17, triggering widespread protests against Irani and Dattatreya who were blamed for the suicide.

He demanded the resignations of Irani and another minister, Bandaru Dattatreya, from ministerial posts and said a case must be lodged against them for the “institutional murder” of Vemula.
