Indianapolis had a down season past year after losing franchise quarterback Andrew Luck to injury. Ameer Abdullah 120 total yards rushing and receiving and one touchdown.
INJURY REPORT: Detroit running back Theo Riddick left for a while to undergo the concussion protocol, but returned late in the game after being cleared. He directed touchdown drives of of 75, 85, 94 and 75 yards after a slow start. But it’s hard not to wonder how effective the Colts would have been had they not spent the entire first half trying to figure out what the heck they were doing, and they would be a much better football team if they could play a complete game. The hopes of forcing a 3-and-out and keeping Stafford and company off the field soon disappeared. The Lions added a safety on the game’s final play. The Lions played so well, they took the crowd out of the game – a huge factor on the road while playing indoors. Indianapolis trailed 21-3 before Luck engineered a hurry-up offense to close to 21-10 before the half. He knew he could lead his team to the victory and he refused to let their own blunders stop him. After a prior penalty, Luck hit 2015 1st Round Pick Phillip Dorsett for a 51-yard gain and all of the sudden, the Colts were starting to look like the team most of us had expected all along.

Detroit was the first on the board, thanks to a 21 yard pass to Theo Riddick. “We were able to make some big plays there”. Stafford eventually led the team downfield for the game-winning field goal, but the defense’s self-combustion was a bit disconcerting. Other times it leads to him being brilliant (like against the Lions).
Stafford threw to running backs Abdullah and Riddick ten times against the Colts, they caught all ten passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
Andrew Luck and company came out firing in the second half and after a missed extra point by Matt Prater, the table appeared to be set for the Colts to rally back and steal the game.
But the Colts led 37-35.
Andrew Luck isn’t broken. Although Riddick found the end zone twice, Abdullah has the better track record.
Matthew Stafford’s final drive changed the outlook entirely.
After throwing for only 23 passing yards in the first quarter, Luck finished the night with 385 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Smith threw for 363 yards and two touchdowns, the second a back-shoulder fade to Jeremy Maclin with just over nine minutes left in the fourth quarter that trimmed the Chiefs’ deficit to 27-17. This honestly might have been a top three performance in his career and it was wasted. We have to defend 25 yards.
He found tight ends Dwayne Allen and Jack Doyle for three touchdowns.
The Lions had no such problem.
Only this time, Stafford got the ball last and made the plays that sent Luck home with a painful loss. Greg Toler and Ricky Jean-Francois are now in Washington.
The Lions and Colts traded punts the rest of the first quarter and into the second. Drafting defense has not been great for Grigson either.
