Prater’s late field goal spoils Colts season opener
Hyder was one of the last players to make the team and was one of the only players able to make an impact on the defense collecting two sacks in the game. Matthew Stafford looked like he did during the second half of last season, completing 31 of 39 passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions. “That’s a tough way to lose”.

They used timeouts on three consecutive plays after Theo Riddick, Eric Ebron and Marvin Jones were tackled in-bounds, then Matthew Stafford threw the ball away on a fourth snap before Matt Prater trotted on for the game-winning 43-yard field goal.
After the play, the Colts attempted a wild last gasp kick return, replete with illegal forward passes, that ended in a safety because of a penalty in the end zone. After starting at their own 6 yard line, the Colts drove it all the way back for the touchdown, tying the game at 28-28 with 8:19 left in the game.
Luck erased any doubts as to his health by completing 31 of 47 passes for 385 yards and four touchdowns.
What we do know is that quarterback Andrew Luck and tight end Coby Fleener were teammates at Stanford and then for four years with the Colts.
The Texans added a 38-yard field goal later in the quarter to make it 23-14.
The Lions took the lead in the first quarter with a 21 yard Theo Riddick touchdown run, and hold the lead for the end of the first to 7-0. After fighting for every yard earlier on in the game, would do so yet again on the final drive.
“One person gets winded, the next guy has to come in ready to do the same thing, if not more, and I feel like that’s what we bring and hopefully we can continue that”.
The Lions came out of the gate quickly, achieving a few goals that seemed unlikely prior to the opening of the season.
“[Offensive coordinator Rob] Chud [zinski] is doing a great job of finding mismatches”, Allen said, “and Andrew, who is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, is doing a great job of finding us”. Our quarterback was exceptional, so this one is disappointing as heck. On the first drive of the second half, with the Colts down 21-10, Turbin had two third-down conversions, one via the ground and one via the air. In his first drive back, after being tested for a possible concussion in the locker room, Riddick caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to break the 28-28 lockdown against Indianapolis.
-VINATIERI ON THE MARK: Including 40- and 50-yarders made on Sunday, Indianapolis kicker Vinatieri has made 57 of his 60 most recent attempts dating to the start of the 2014 season. We can’t get off the field, they were 75 percent on third down in the first half. We finally found a rhythm with the pass and the run, but this just wasn’t our sure.
Scoring 35 points should be enough to win an NFL football game.
So back to the Colts’ go-ahead score. “Outside linebacker Robert Mathis” words will resonate more with Indianapolis Colts fans. “When you miss like that, the second one can be hard”.
At least two of the Colts’ defenders accepted the blame for the setback, despite the defense lacking some starters, including cornerback Vontae Davis. I can understand-but don’t agree with-moving the Lions down a couple spots after a shaky win. Before Sunday, Indianapolis led the all-time series, 21-18-2.

Meanwhile, as the Colts were working through the scenario on their sideline, Detroit coach Jim Caldwell was debating his timeout usage across the way.
