Predators find way to San Jose by eliminating Ducks

The Ducks were left with the same odd story to tell for another long summer.

History repeating: As we pointed out prior to the Anaheim series, every time Nashville has faced an opponent a second time in the postseason the result was the same as the first.

The team kept its coaching staff intact and did not make big trades after the Ducks’ 1-7-2 start. I think it works both ways for both teams. “If you don’t take this step, you can’t take any more steps”.

The Predators handled the pressure splendidly. It turns out their Honda Center is really their house of pain since they are 1-4 at home in those games.

“I feel like we’ve done the right things”, said Laviolette. Nevertheless, the core of the Anaheim Ducks (Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, Cam Fowler, Sami Vatanen) have all been together throughout the majority of this game seven losing streak, but that core his shifted significantly and often over the years.Resorting to the man advantage isn’t the best way to get a win, but if it gets them past the first round it’ll be worth it. A late Nashville penalty carried over into the third period as Nashville began to lose discipline. Or with any single one of the Ducks’ chances in a furious third period, including this redirection that bounced off Rinne and clicked right off the post.

We know their strength as a team and I think they know our strength, Wingels said. This was probably one of the best games of the series. “I don’t know if anyone picked us, really”, Predators winger James Neal said. “We had to play defence, and they played a strong game tonight, but we did an excellent job”.

Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said the New Jersey Devils team he coached to a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2012 was in a similar position as the Predators are now.

Taking up where he left off in helping the Islanders advance beyond the first round for the first time in 23 years, Tavares assisted on Travis Hamonic’s goal that erased an early deficit and scored his sixth postseason goal on a blistering shot from the left circle to give NY a 4-1 lead in the second.

Consistent scoring among Sharks players doesn’t go much beyond four or five names. The Sharks were the last team among the group, which also includes St. Louis, to reach a Western Conference final when they advanced in 2010 and 2011. He’s also 1-7 in Game 7s in his career. The Predators, with a lot fewer rest days, will still be buzzing from their emphatic Game 7 victory over the Ducks. “But I thought we dominated them throughout the game”. A lot of guys in here that were playing hard for us. We played hard. We played to win.

The Ducks’ recent Game 7 failures followed similar scripts that all started with an early goal by the visitors: Detroit, Los Angeles and Chicago all scored in the opening 4 1/2 minutes.

Forsberg led the Predators with 33 goals and 64 points during the regular season, including one goal and two assists in three games against San Jose. They wrapped Los Angeles up in five games and have been sitting idle for almost a week.

Wilson, who had a point in five of the seven games, scored on a backhand at the 6:19 mark after Ducks defenceman Simon Despres failed to cleanly handle an airborne puck and let the winger get behind him. “Everything that teams do right now is in the interests of the players to make sure they’re ready to play”. Jakob Silfverberg broke his stick on a three-on-two chance. “We had a belief in this room that we could win this series, and we did”. The Predators scratched F Cody Bass for the first time in the series, using Colton Sissons and Craig Smith instead.
